SHU Yinbiao Attends CCIEE-UNDP Hydrogen Industry Summit Forum


On April 8th, SHU Yinbiao, Chairman of China Huaneng Group and President of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), attended China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) - The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Hydrogen Industry Summit Forum in Beijing, and delivered a speech during the Closed-door Session of "The Hydrogen Layout and Dual Carbon Strategy of Centrally-administered SOEs".

The forum was guided by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and National Energy Administration (NEA), and was co-hosted by CCIEE and UNDP. With its main content of "Planning, Policy and International Cooperation", the forum deeply explored hydrogen industry's development and international cooperation in sectors like technologies, projects, and talents, etc..   

In his speech, SHU Yinbiao analyzed the current development status and challenges of hydrogen industry, and proposed advice for propelling the sustainable development of hydrogen in China. He pointed out, China attaches great attention to the development of hydrogen industry. Under the guidance of the "dual carbon" targets, China issued The Mid-to-Long Term Planning of Hydrogen Industry (2021 to 2035) in March. Hydrogen is the core technology to achieve carbon neutrality. It will mainly be applied in areas like electricity, transportation, industry, and buildings, etc.. Currently, the development of hydrogen faces challenges, for instances, more breakthroughs shall be made in core technology, end-use application scenarios shall be further enriched, and standard system shall be further improved. SHU Yinbiao suggested, embracing "dual carbon" targets, strengthen the strategic guidance, accelerate setting up hydrogen technology roadmap and subdivided industrial development planning, form normative and rational hydrogen industry ecosystem, improve policy system, strengthen fiscal and financial support, and perfect hydrogen pricing mechanism; innovate in hydrogen industry R&D system, exert centrally-administered SOE's advantages, establish industrial alliance, make breakthroughs in core technology based on the deep integration of industry, academia, and research sectors, elevate the level of hydrogen core technology in areas such as fundamental research and engineering application; accelerate setting up technology and industry standards in each link of hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and application, establish a hydrogen product quality certification system, innovate in commercial mode, and consistently elevate the modernization level of industrial chain.
