Huaneng Successfully Researched and Developed the World’s Largest Supercapacitor Mixed Energy Storage Frequency Adjustment System


On April 17th, the world's largest supercapacitor mixed energy storage frequency adjustment system independently researched and developed by China Huaneng Group Co. Ltd. completed test and debugging experiment with the grid in Huaneng Luoyuan Power Plant. With all technical standards meeting requirements, the system smoothly enters commercial stage, embodying China ranking at the world's advanced level in supercapacitor R&D, integration and application.  

The set of 5MW supercapacitor plus 15MW lithium battery mixed energy storage frequency adjustment system with proprietary intellectual property rights is jointly researched and developed by China Huaneng's Xi'an Thermal Power Research Institute and Luoyuan Power Plant. The system greatly elevates the flexibility, comprehensive performances, life expectancy, and economical efficiency of the existing energy storage frequency adjustment systems. The technology's successful application fully testify large supercapacitor energy storage technology's safety, reliability, and economical efficiency, exerting positive effects on constructing new-type power system and propelling the realization of the 'Dual Carbon' goals.
