The world's first tandem twin-wheel wind turbine independently developed by China Huaneng successfully completed hoisting

On May 13, the world's first tandem twin-wheel wind turbine "Sairui", which is independently developed by Huaneng, successfully completed hoisting at Tongyu Wind Power Plant in Jilin Province as its front wind turbine and engine room were docked. "Sairui" has entered the complete machine operation demonstration phase.

"Sairui" twin-wheel wind turbine, with the unit capacity of 2.7MW, is independently developed by Huaneng Clean Energy Technology Research Institute (CERI), and hoisted by Huaneng Jilin Branch Company. Different from traditional wind turbine, "Sairui" captures wind energy by both of its front and rear wind wheels, while reducing its blade length by nearly half for the same power. With thorough study on the theory of multistage blade aerodynamic cascade energy capture, CERI successfully developed a new type of blade and the synergistic control system, solving the bottleneck problems such as low-efficiency wind energy capture and oversized blade, and realizing the efficient cascade utilization of wind energy for the first time. According to the design requirements of twin-wheel wind turbine, CERI achieved the simulation design software development, the manufacturing of complete sets of key equipment and the formulation of experimental test methods, and carried out its intellectual property layout including hundreds of national invention patents and software copyrights, which forms the world's first wind energy capture basic theory and technology system of tandem multi-wheel wind turbine.

Compared with single-wheel wind turbine, twin-wheel wind turbine reduces its cost by over 10%, and increases its single unit efficiency by 15%, saving the occupied area, expanding the exploitable scale of wind resources, and therefore enjoys a broad prospect for wide application.
