Huaneng Won a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

From April 17 to 21, Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute (HCERI) presented its advanced innovative technology achievements in the CCUS field at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. The Invention of System and Method for Enhanced Regeneration of Carbon Dioxide Capture Solvent, independently developed by HCERI, stood out from 1,053 patents and won a gold medal. This award is China Huaneng's first international gold medal in the field of intellectual property, marking Huaneng's breakthrough of "zero" international invention awards.

The patent, System and Method for Enhanced Regeneration of Carbon Dioxide Capture Solvent, innovatively utilizes the cavitation effect of ultrasound to promote the escape of carbon dioxide from the liquid phase, facilitates accelerating regeneration reaction, lowers the desorption temperature and steam consumption, increases the desorption ratio, and reduces the energy consumption per unit of carbon dioxide production. This invention can be applied for carbon capture from emission sources such as power plant flue gases, aiming to reduce the cost of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

It is understood that the Geneva International Invention Exhibition was founded in 1973 and is jointly organized by the Swiss Federal Government, the Geneva State Government, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It is one of the three most influential invention festivals in the world. This exhibition features over a thousand invention patents and innovative technologies from over 50 countries around the world. Experts from WIPO and the European Patent Office have selected gold, silver and copper awards for patented technologies.
